OCH Regional Medical Center has expanded access to care in Ackerman with the addition of Certified Family Nurse Practitioner Amanda Miller at Parsons Family Medical Clinic. Amanda joins board-certified family medicine physician Dr. Morris Parsons, who has more than 35 years of experience in primary care.

A native of Ackerman, Miller joined OCH in 2006, after earning her associates of nursing from MUW and began practicing in the medical/surgical unit and later in the nursery department before joining the emergency department in 2013. Miller earned her bachelor of science in nursing from University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2014. In 2020, Miller graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center with a master of science in nursing, family medicine, and earned her certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

“As a nurse in the inpatient setting and ER, I have taken care of patients from newborns to grandparents with a wide range of health conditions,” said Miller. “Being a nurse practitioner provides a different avenue for me to take care of my patients by allowing a continuation of care in a long-term setting."

“For the past 15 years, Amanda has been a part of the OCH family where she provided bedside care for patients with emergencies and chronic diseases and that experience carries over into her practice as a nurse practitioner,” said OCH Administrator Jim Jackson. “We’re so pleased to have her in Ackerman where she’s a part of the community and can help expand access to care.”

Miller manages chronic illnesses including hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes, as well as providing wellness exams and treating walk-in patients with day-to-day concerns.

“Being a part of this community and having a relationship with my patients helps me to better care for them. Everybody’s family here, and that’s how we want them to feel when they’re in our clinic.”

Miller is certified in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS), basic life support (BLS), neonatal resuscitation (NRP), and trauma nursing (TNCC). She and her husband, Steven, have been married for 19 years and have two sons, Jacob (18) and Tate (13).
