After receiving a supply of the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccines, we were able to vaccinate high risk individuals on our waiting list this morning. These patients have a history of allergic reactions and cannot get the vaccine at a drive-thru location. The JNJ dose is only one shot and takes 28 days to reach effectiveness. This one is only 85% effective compared to the Pfizer one which is 97%. I’m glad I got the Pfizer one!

I have a family member who is at high risk of allergic reaction. Are the allergy high risk individuals encouraged to take their shots at the hospital in order to be near medical professionals or because the J&J vaccine is safer for allergy high risk individuals? Or both? Thank you!

Jana Moore, RN, just discharged our only COVID patient leaving us with ZERO COVID patients in the hospital! We’re encouraged but also know this battle isn’t over. Anyone 65+ and those with serious chronic medical conditions are encouraged to avoid social gatherings until fully protected by a COVID vaccine. Full vaccine effectiveness occurs 2 weeks after the 2nd dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines & 28 days after the JNJ vaccine. ... See MoreSee Less
