Urinary Incontinence Programs at OCH |
Loss of bladder control or incontinence affects more than 19 million adults. Eighty percent of women may experience loss of bladder control after childbirth while 30 percent of men and women over age 60 have various forms of incontinence. According to Carol Walters, PT, Outpatient Physical Therapy is now offering a program to help both men and women regain control. This program offers a conservative approach to continence including an evaluation by a physical therapist, an individualized program in pelvic muscle re-education, bladder retraining, and lifestyle modifications.
Do you know someone who urinates more than every 2 hours during the daytime and more than once during the night? Leaks urine when he or she coughs, sneezes, or exercises? You can tell them about this treatment for bladder control. The patient can discuss the condition with their physician to assure that the incontinence is not a result of another disease or an infection process such as a urinary tract infection. Then if appropriate, the physician can request a physical therapy referral to OCH.
