Respiratory Services

  Purpose of Department:

Recognizing the life-sustaining need of our patients to breathe and to breathe better, our department exists to provide the highest level of respiratory care to the patients who are served by our hospital. 

Services Provided:

Respiratory Therapists provide care for those patients suffering from upper-airway disorders and lung diseases.  In this role, we oversee administration of oxygen, respiratory medications, and therapeutics to help others breathe better.  Serving as subject matter experts on ventilator management, Respiratory Therapists assist physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers create and manage the care plans of our most critical patients that range in age from infants to geriatrics.

Credentials/Certifications:

The Respiratory Therapy department is accredited by the Joint Commission for both provision of Respiratory Services and arterial blood sampling.  Additionally, our Arterial Blood Gas Lab is certified by the College of American Pathologists.   These credentials insure optimal quality in the provision of respiratory care at the OCH Regional Medical Center.

Location of Department:

          The Respiratory Therapy Department is located on the first floor of the OCH Regional Medical Center in the South Tower. Enter the main entrance and proceed  to the Security Desk for further directions.

Number of employees by skill-set:

Respiratory therapists are Registered, Certified, or eligible.  OCH is staffed by at least two therapists 24 hours a day to meet the inpatient and emergency demand for services.  The Respiratory Therapy department has 15 therapists available.

How to access the service:

            Primarily tasked as first-responders throughout the facility, our therapists provide services to in-patients and out-patients on a referral basis.

Hours of operation:

            Inpatient and emergency services are available 24 hours a day.  Certain out-patient services/procedures are performed Monday through Friday, 7:00a - 4:30p.
